CoR Interregional Group on Health and Wellbeing

11 April 2019 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

The next meeting of the European Committee of the Regions’ Interregional Group on Health and Well-being will take place on Thursday 11 April at 8h00-9h00 at the European Committee of the Regions building, room JDE 70. The topic of the meeting is

“Value-Based Healthcare in Europe:

Challenges and Opportunities”

Evidence shows that the relationship between healthcare expenditure and health outcomes is not linear: the greater the expenditure, the lower the marginal improvement in health status. Therefore, a new approach is needed. Value is defined as a function of outcomes and costs. To achieve high value, we must deliver the best possible outcomes in the most efficient way, outcomes which matter from the perspective of the individual receiving healthcare.

This new approach could improve the quality of care for patients, while simultaneously making health systems more cost-effective. Cooperation between the different stakeholders of the health system is central in order to make Value-Based healthcare a reality. Against this backdrop, regions and local authorities play a crucial role in this debate.

The event aims to facilitate exchanges among participants and to nurture the debate on value-based healthcare by showcasing regional experiences and directly engaging with representatives of academia.
