The 6th European Value-Based Procurement Conference in Brussels set the stage for a paradigm shift in healthcare procurement, bridging policy, sustainability, and patient-centric approaches to build truly value-based health systems.

As a supporting partner alongside MedTech EuropeBoston Consulting Group (BCG), and EHPPA – European Health Public Procurement Alliance, EUREGHA had the honor of opening the event and contributing to discussions that emphasized the power of collaboration, innovation, and outcome-driven solutions.

Representing EUREGHA, Marco Di Donato highlighted the unique role of regions in driving value-based transformation. Regions are ideally positioned to pilot innovative care delivery models, adapt these solutions to local needs, and scale best practices across Europe. Value-based procurement is a key enabler in accelerating this transformation, with regional and local authorities playing a crucial role in these efforts.

As additional key contributions from our partners and friend organisations, Casper Paardekooper (European Alliance for Value in Health) underscored the urgent need to shift focus towards outcomes that matter most to patients. The mission of the European Alliance is clear: to align stakeholders, foster innovation, and prioritize value over volume in healthcare delivery. By working together, we can achieve real transformation and improve the quality and sustainability of healthcare systems. Hamish Laing (Swansea University, Wales) brought attention to the importance of building a strong dialogue between buyers and suppliers. He emphasized that shared values and risks are essential for success and outlined a framework with five key factors to achieve internal readiness and foster user-centric innovation within the healthcare industry.

A Call to Action for Sustainable, Patient-Centered Systems

The Conference was a clear reminder that value-based procurement is not just a goal—it is a necessity for building sustainable, patient-centered health systems. By prioritizing value over volume, fostering regional leadership, and strengthening collaboration across stakeholders, we can ensure healthcare systems are better aligned with patient needs and long-term sustainability goals. The event also offered an opportunity to share key insights from the latest European Alliance for Value in Health (EAVH) report on stakeholder roles, which can be accessed here: Read the Report.
