Global Challenges, Territorial Answers: the Future of Health in Europe - Event organised by EUREGHA on behalf of the Committee of the Region's Interregional Group on Health and Well-being

On 28 November, EUREGHA organised a workshop at the European Parliament with the aim of presenting JA-CHRODIS (EU Joint Action on Chronic Diseases and promoting healthy ageing across the life-cycle) to European policy makers. The workshop had a special focus to display JA-CHRODIS achievements in the field of diabetes prevention and management, and the launch of the CHRODIS PLATFORM for knowledge exchange. The event was hosted by MEP Therese Comodini Cachia.

The workshop was chaired by JA-CHRODIS coordinator, Carlos Segovia (Instituto de Salud Carlos III) and included introductory presentations from the leaders of each Work Package. Furthermore, Ms Zalatel, Slovenian National Institute of Public Health, presented the lessons learned from the implementation of the Slovenian National Diabetes Plan previously debated during a meeting with the European Parliament Diabetes Working Group in 2011.

In addition, WP4 (CHRODIS PLATFORM) used the opportunity to launch the CHRODIS PLATFORM, the online tool where decision-makers, caregivers, patients, and researchers across the EU can find and share the best knowledge on chronic diseases. Ms Luciana Costa, researcher in the Department of Health Promotion and Prevention of Non-communicable diseases at the Portuguese National Institute of Health, presented the diabetes prevention and screening in vulnerable populations in Lisbon area; it is a good practice that currently scores the highest among the evaluated practices submitted to the PLATFORM.

The event was concluded by MEP Marisa Matias, co-chair of the European Parliament Diabetes Working Group, welcoming evidence gathered by JA-CHRODIS for future advocacy in the field of European action on diabetes.

The JA-CHRODIS Final Conference will take place in Brussels on 27-28 February. Registrations are open, following this link.
